Brought in my grandfather's Seiko that had not run properly in about fifteen years. The heritage engagement took five weeks, and Razif shared photographs at each stage — disassembly, cleaning, the movement laid out. The piece came back running steadily and the written record they included was more than I expected. Would not hesitate to return.

I had a visual review done on a watch I picked up at an estate sale. The written report was clear and honest — there were things the bench noted that I had not noticed at all. It helped me decide whether to invest in further work. Good value for what it covers, and the session itself was unhurried.

Lume refresh on a vintage piece. They showed me photographs of the existing material before touching anything, which I appreciated — I was slightly concerned about changing the original look. In the end the tone they suggested was a good match and the result is tidy. The wait was about three weeks, which is reasonable.

The communication throughout was the part that stood out most. Farouk sent updates at each stage without me asking, and when they found a worn component they messaged me the same day with a photograph and an explanation before doing anything. That kind of approach is not common. The watch returned in excellent order.

Used the visual review service for a watch I inherited from my father. I was not sure about its condition or its history, so I wanted an honest assessment before deciding what to do. The written report was clear and they answered several follow-up questions by email without fuss. Ended up commissioning the heritage engagement based on their advice.

Brought two watches for visual reviews — a Longines from the 1960s and a more recent automatic. The session was about forty-five minutes, thorough and relaxed. One watch received a clear all-good; the other needed attention. Good to have the information in writing. Parking near the atelier can be a bit of a search but nothing major.

Projects from the bench

Three engagements from recent months, described as they unfolded.

1960s Omega Seamaster — Heritage Workshop

6 weeks · RM 4,650

Challenge

The watch had not been serviced in at least twenty years. The owner had acquired it from a family member and knew it was running but could not verify condition. The crown showed corrosion and the movement rate varied significantly over the course of a day.

Approach

After a visual review confirmed the scope, the bench proceeded with a full heritage engagement. The calibre was disassembled, cleaned, and inspected. A worn keyless works part was identified and a period-appropriate replacement sourced. The owner approved the part before installation.

Outcome

The movement returned to regulation within accepted vintage tolerances. The owner received a work record, a full photographic sequence, and the original worn component in a small envelope. The watch is now worn daily.

"I had no idea what was inside. By the time it came back I felt I knew the watch properly for the first time."

1970s Seiko 5 — Lume Refresh

3 weeks · RM 1,150

Challenge

The lume on the hands and dial indices had deteriorated unevenly — some plots had lost material entirely and others were yellowed. The owner wanted a refresh but was concerned about the watch losing its original character.

Approach

The bench photographed the existing condition in detail and proposed a warm ivory tone matching the surrounding dial ageing. The owner reviewed the before photographs and approved the tone before any application. The refresh was completed on hands and indices only.

Outcome

The before-and-after photographs showed a consistent, settled result. The owner noted that the tone looked in keeping with the watch's age rather than new, which was the stated aim. The project completed within the estimated window.

"The before photos made the decision easy — they showed exactly what we were working from. The result suited the watch well."

Unknown vintage pocket watch — Visual Review

Single session · RM 470

Challenge

The owner brought in an old pocket watch from a house clearance. The maker's name was partially visible but the piece was unfamiliar. She wanted to understand its condition and approximate era before deciding whether further investment made sense.

Approach

The bench conducted the visual review and noted the case hallmarks, dial condition, crown and stem state, and observed the movement through the caseback. The written report included observations on probable era and advice on likely service requirements.

Outcome

The owner received a written summary with reference photographs and left better informed about the piece. She decided not to proceed with further service at that time, which the bench considered a perfectly valid outcome for the review service.

"Even though I chose not to go further, the session was worth every ringgit. I know what I have now."
