About These Terms
These terms apply when you engage Escapement for any watch service, visit the atelier for a consultation, or use this website. By proceeding with any service, you acknowledge that you have read and understood the terms below.
Escapement reserves the right to update these terms from time to time. The version published at the time of your service engagement will govern that engagement.
02
Services Offered
Escapement currently offers three services:
-
01
Pre-Service Visual Review — RM 470
A bench visit covering visual assessment of a watch's exterior, case condition, and basic operation. A brief written observation is shared with the owner at the conclusion of the session.
-
02
Lume Refresh — RM 1,150
Careful re-application of lume material on hands and indices for vintage and modern pieces. Before-and-after photographs are shared, and the owner may pause the project before work begins if they prefer to retain the original material.
-
03
Heritage Workshop Engagement — RM 4,650
A long-form service for older mechanical pieces, including disassembly, cleaning, parts review, and rebuilding. Progress photographs and written summaries are shared at each major stage. Owner approval is sought before the bench proceeds to the next stage.
03
Pricing and Payment
All prices are listed in Malaysian Ringgit (RM) and are inclusive of the service described. Prices do not include parts that may be sourced separately, which will be discussed and agreed with the owner before procurement.
Payment is due upon collection of the piece or, for longer engagements, in stages as agreed in writing at the start of the project. Escapement does not begin work until an initial acknowledgement of terms and pricing has been confirmed by the owner.
Prices listed on this website and in written estimates are subject to revision if the scope of work changes after a more thorough assessment. Any revision will be communicated to the owner before additional work proceeds.
04
Owner Responsibilities
The owner is asked to provide accurate information about the piece, including any known history of previous service, repairs, modifications, or damage. Withholding relevant information may affect the outcome of the work.
The owner confirms that they are the rightful owner of any piece submitted for service, or that they have the authority to authorise service on behalf of the rightful owner.
After work is complete, the owner is asked to collect the piece within a reasonable period — ordinarily within 30 days of notification. Escapement will make reasonable efforts to contact the owner before this period lapses.
05
Care in Handling
Escapement handles each piece with careful attention, and the bench takes reasonable precautions at every stage of service. While every care is taken, the following should be noted:
- —Very old pieces, or those with undisclosed prior damage, may present unexpected conditions once opened. The bench will pause and consult the owner before proceeding in such cases.
- —Period-appropriate parts are used where possible for heritage work. Where originals are unavailable, the bench will discuss suitable alternatives with the owner.
- —Escapement is not responsible for pre-existing faults that were not visible at intake and only become apparent during service.
06
Turnaround Times
Estimated turnaround times are provided as a guide only and are not contractual commitments. The bench works at a measured pace suited to the care each piece requires.
If the expected timeframe changes during a project, the bench will notify the owner at the earliest reasonable opportunity and provide a revised estimate.
07
Limitation of Liability
To the extent permitted by Malaysian law, Escapement's liability in relation to any service is limited to the fee paid for that service. Escapement is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including any loss related to the sentimental or collectible value of a piece.
This limitation does not apply where loss arises from gross negligence or wilful misconduct on the part of Escapement.
08
Cancellation and Withdrawal
An owner may withdraw a piece at any stage before work begins without any charge. Once bench work has commenced, a partial fee may apply to cover time and any consumables used. The bench will communicate what has been done and the applicable partial amount before the piece is returned.
For the Heritage Workshop Engagement, owners may pause the project at any approved checkpoint. Work already completed at the point of pausing will be billed proportionally as agreed at the start of the engagement.
09
Photographs and Records
Escapement photographs pieces at intake, during service, and at completion. These photographs are shared with the owner and retained in the project record for a period of five years.
Escapement may, with the owner's permission, use anonymised bench photographs for educational or portfolio purposes. No piece will be identified by owner name or other personal detail without explicit consent.
10
Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia. Any dispute arising from a service engagement or use of this website will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Malaysia.
