Why Escapement
A different kind of watch service
Owner involvement, transparent scope, and bench work that respects the character of the piece — these are not extras here, they are the standard.

What working with us means
You stay informed throughout
Written notes and photographs accompany every significant stage of the work. You do not need to ask — we share updates as a matter of course.
Nothing proceeds without your approval
At any decision point that affects the watch's character or cost, we pause and wait for your response before continuing. The piece is yours; the choices remain yours.
Work scoped before it begins
We confirm the scope and price at the outset. There are no additions or surprises. If something unforeseen arises, we contact you before adjusting anything.
Period-appropriate component selection
For vintage and heritage pieces, we source parts that suit the watch's age, not just what happens to be available. Where original parts are scarce, we discuss alternatives with you before sourcing.
A written record returned with the piece
Heritage workshop engagements include a document describing the work carried out. This travels with the watch and remains useful for future owners or servicers.
Realistic timelines, honestly kept
We set a schedule at the start and keep to it. If something changes, we let you know promptly — not at the point of collection.
Expertise
Deep familiarity with mechanical movements
The Escapement bench has worked with mechanical hand-wound and automatic movements for over a decade. The team includes a principal watchmaker with formal training in horology and a dial and lume specialist who brings careful attention to surface condition and finish.
- Over sixteen years of movement experience
- Formal horological training at the principal level
- Specialist knowledge of vintage calibres and finishing
"We keep the scope of our work narrow on purpose. Doing a small range of things well is more useful to the people who bring us their watches than attempting everything with variable results."
— Razif Hamdan, Principal Watchmaker
Owner communication is handled by a dedicated team member, not left to whoever is free. Every enquiry receives a considered response, and progress updates are sent without needing to be requested.
Service
Communication that respects your time
From the first enquiry through to collection, you will know where your watch is, what has been done, and what comes next. Questions receive direct answers.
- Dedicated client liaison for all communication
- Photographs shared at each significant stage
- Responses within one working day
Value
Transparent pricing, no surprises
Our service prices are fixed and shared upfront. The Pre-Service Visual Review costs RM 470. The Lume Refresh is RM 1,150. The Heritage Workshop Engagement is RM 4,650. These figures cover the work as described — there are no additions unless discussed and agreed with you first.
- Fixed prices shared before work begins
- No additions without prior discussion
- Part costs itemised separately and agreed in advance
How We Compare
Escapement versus a typical repair shop
Not all watch service experiences are the same. Here is a straightforward look at how our approach differs from what is often the norm.

| Photographs shared during the work | ||
| Owner approval before each significant step | ||
| Fixed price confirmed before work begins | Sometimes | |
| Period-appropriate parts sourcing for vintage watches | Rarely | |
| Work record returned with the piece | ||
| Dedicated liaison for owner communication |
What Sets Us Apart
Distinctive elements of the Escapement approach
The pause protocol
Before any step that changes the watch's character — lume tone selection, parts replacement, or a significant intervention — work stops. We share what we have found and what we propose, and wait for your response. This is built into every project, not offered as an optional extra.
Parts returned, not discarded
Original components removed during a service are kept and returned with the watch unless you ask otherwise. For vintage pieces especially, these parts carry history and potential future value.
A photographic record of the work
We photograph disassembly, cleaning stages, and reassembly. These images are shared with you and serve as a visual record of the watch's condition at each point in the process.
Narrow focus, consistent results
We offer three services. This is deliberate. A narrow scope allows us to maintain consistent quality and take on work we are confident in, rather than spreading across a wider range with variable outcomes.
