Services at the Bench

Each piece is handled without rushing. We share observations and photographs as we go, and welcome questions at every stage.

Pre-Service Visual Review

Pre-Service Visual Review

A bench visit covering the watch's exterior, case condition, and basic operation. We note the dial, hands, crown, and bezel, then share a written observation — useful before deciding whether further work is needed.

  • Written condition report included
  • Friendly, unhurried session
  • Suitable for inherited or newly acquired pieces

Lume Refresh

Lume Refresh

Careful lume work on hands and indices for vintage and modern pieces. We review the existing material, select an appropriate tone, and apply new lume with steady technique. Before-and-after photographs are shared throughout.

  • Period-sympathetic tone matching
  • Before & after photographs shared
  • Owner approval before proceeding

What makes the bench different

Written observations every step

Every session ends with a short written note on condition, materials, and any concerns — something to keep alongside the watch.

Photographs shared as work proceeds

We photograph disassembly, cleaning stages, and reassembly so owners can follow the work at their own pace, from a distance.

Approval before each major step

Nothing is done without the owner's word. If we reach a decision point, we pause, report, and wait for a response before continuing.

Unhurried timeline

Work at the bench is not rushed. We set a realistic schedule at the outset and keep to it, or inform you promptly if anything changes.

Period-appropriate parts sourcing

For older pieces we look for components that suit the watch's age and character, not just the closest available alternative.

Careful return packaging

Heritage workshop pieces are returned with a soft cloth case and a written record of the work carried out — a document to keep with the watch.

Have a watch that needs attention?

Drop us a note with a brief description of the piece and what you have noticed. We will reply within one working day to arrange a bench visit or answer any initial questions.

Things people often ask

What happens during a Pre-Service Visual Review?
We examine the exterior of the watch — case, crystal, dial, hands, crown, and bezel where present — and note any visible wear, damage, or concerns. You receive a brief written summary at the end. There is no disassembly at this stage; it is a first look before deciding on next steps.
How long does a Heritage Workshop Engagement take?
The timeline depends on the movement's complexity and the availability of any parts needed. Most engagements run between four and eight weeks. We share a realistic estimate at the outset and keep you informed at every major stage.
Can I decline work partway through a project?
Yes. For Lume Refresh and Heritage Workshop Engagements we pause at key decision points and share photographs or written notes before continuing. If you decide not to proceed at any stage, we return the piece in its current state and discuss what has been completed so far.
Is it worth getting a visual review before sending a watch for more work?
It is often a sensible first step, especially for pieces you have recently acquired or inherited and are not yet sure about. The review gives you a clearer picture of the watch's condition and helps you decide how to proceed — without committing to a larger scope.
How do I arrange a bench visit or send an enquiry?
Use the contact form below or call us directly. A brief description of the piece and what you have noticed is enough to start. We aim to reply within one working day to arrange a time that suits.
Do you work on quartz or battery-powered watches?
Our bench focuses on mechanical movements — hand-wound and automatic. For quartz pieces, a visual review is still possible; further work depends on the specific piece and what is needed.
